Pink Floyd - Us and Them

Us and Them And after all we're only ordinary men Me, and you God only knows it's not what we would choose to do Forward he cried from the rear and the front rank died And the General sat, as the lines on the map moved from side to side Black and Blue And who knows which is which and who is who Up and Down And in the end it's only round and round and round Haven't you heard it's a battle of words the poster bearer cried Listen son, said the man with the gun There's room for you inside Down and Out It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about With, without And who'll deny that's what the fightings all about Get out of the way, it's a busy day And I've got things on my mind For want of the price of tea and a slice The old man died

I started naming all my philosophy essays with titles from Pink Floyd songs. It works super well!

This is my boyfriend‘s favourite track. Now he‘s far away and every time I listen to it I die a little bit inside. I really wish he were here and run his fingers through my hair, while listening to this mindblowing and inspiring band. Why do we always have to miss someone or something?
Muhammed Irfan
I feel sadness for people who don't really enjoy music in the emotional sense. I'm not criticizing anybody, we are all wired differently. but i would hate life if i only looked for a beat you can dance to in the music i listen to. it just has a huge impact on so many people. it's an amazing art form, if you think about how it works.
Jonathan Putnam
it makes me so sad that people dismiss this as hippie music or outdated. i used to listen to this in middle school and high school and it was such a comfort. then i started getting older and got into very angry, noisy music and i lost touch. coming back to it feels like coming home. i didn't even know how badly i missed the pure love and sensitivity of pink floyd. if only every person with power in our world could be so human, but it doesn't always work that way. it's always us vs. them. or as Fallout always says, "War. War never changes."
My grandkids listen to Dark Side and know every tune by heart. I'm 67 and heard them in concert when I was 17...time snuck up from behind..

I'm 16, lying in the back of a carpeted van, with the back doors wide open, watching a bonfire with my friends around it, faces lit up, talking and smoking and laughing. I'm not really there, but I am, you know? Every time I listen to this album.

Love Pink Floyd, my big brother, Richie got me into them when I was about 13 and him 16'ish(1984). He died of an overdose on 20th May 1994 aged just 25. Every track is loaded with memories for me, Love and miss you Rich, Shine on Brother.. .
Dont mean to bum anyone out, but every time i hear this song i think of my father. Every Saturday growing up my dad would blare his floyd & make his famous biscuits & gravy. playing floyd all the way from Shine on you crazy Diamond to The Dogs of War. im 18 & his life was taken due to colon problems in early November 2015. The reason this song made me have the courage to post something like this is because i played this and dozens of other pink floyd songs in his ears while he lay in a coma for over a month. Pink Floyd gave me some of the final moments with my best friend .. iv never commented anything on youtube before .. Im never the type to seek sympathy but this song brings me joy and reminds me he will always be with me. Me and You. God only knows its not what we would choose to do.
Beerdy - Bruce Lee Central
Best Pink Floyd song in my opinion.

C'è tutta la pace universale in questo magnifico pezzo dei grandissimi Pink Floyd, una musica che ti tocca l'anima, quanto è bella sembra veramente di stare ai confini della nostra galassia.

Hey You One of these Days, you will stop to be Comfortable Numb, then you will see, Time, as it self, reveals to us A Saurceful of Secrets. You just have to, Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun, and Any Color You Like would be in The Great Gig in the Sky. Us And Them know it, it Echos. Now you think for a lapse and Breath....this might be one of The Happiest Days Of Our Lives so hey!, Let It Be More Light. High Hopes and Learning to Fly are nice, true, but Remenber a Day”, -Why can’t we reach the sun?- Hmm Have a Cigar and maybe with some Pig’s on the Wing Dogs and Sheep you will hear, A Pillow of Winds. Just that English, way how they, Speak to Me. Kind like a Brain Damage wouldn't you say? Green is the Color so, Welcome to the Machine On the Run into The Dark Side of the Moon without Money, because -it’s a gas-

This song must've surely been an influence on Boards of Canada, Funki Porcini, Thievery Corporation, and even MXQ...great and fine examples of downtempo electronica/lounge music.

In memory for my beloved brother Robby...who passed away 18.yrs ago...when this album was release d in 1974..I think....we bought it then took LSD....what a beautiful memory...I dedicate this song for my brother wherever he might be.
Want to share a personal story, Pink Floyd is one of my favourite bands. About two years ago, Roger Waters came to Mexico to give a free show in his Us and Them tour, at that time I had a girlfriend, we were together for 2 and a half years, and we went to the gig together. Have to say, one of my favourite concerts to date, but there was a moment that will stick to me forever, and it was, this song, because when it began she turned around and I held her in my arms and we slow danced and kissed. I was living a dream. We broke up 3 weeks ago, and the day we ended our love relationship we listened to this song again, slow danced to it and gave us our last kiss. This song repeats in my head ever since. And I don't hate it for that, it reminds me of pure joy and it will always do.

I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing the first time I ever heard this record. Do you?

I had never lived until I listened to this alone at sunrise, walking 8 miles home through the woods in the cold, frozen dead of winter. I did that sort of thing regularly for a girl, and at only 15 years old! Best times of my life
Dénouer of Denouement
Us (us, us, us, us) and them (them, them, them, them) And after all we're only ordinary men Me And you (you, you, you) God only knows It's not what we would choose (choose, choose) to do (to do, to do) Forward he cried from the rear And the front rank died And the general sat And the lines on the map Moved from side to side Black (black, black, black) And blue (blue, blue) And who knows which is which and who is who Up (up, up, up, up) And down (down, down, down, down) And in the end it's only round 'n round (round, round, round) Haven't you heard it's a battle of words The poster bearer cried "Listen son", said the man with the gun There's room for you inside "I mean, they're not gonna kill ya So if you give 'em a quick short, sharp, shock They won't do it again. Dig it? I mean he get off lightly, 'cause I would've given him a thrashing I only hit him once! It was only a difference of opinion, but really I mean good manners don't cost nothing do they, eh?" Down (down, down, down, down) And out (out, out, out, out) It can't be helped that there's a lot of it about With (with, with, with), without And who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about? Out of the way It's a busy day I've got things on my mind For the want of the price Of tea and a slice The old man died

I always knew this was a solid track but in retrospect this might be the best song on DSOTM. Between this and Time. And it's no joke to be the best song on quite possibly the best album of all time.

I was lucky enough to have seen Pink Floyd 3 times. Unfortunately it was without Roger Waters. I had to go see him separately. These songs transcend time; that's why anyone, from anywhere, any age, can enjoy them.
the perfection to this track is when "become" Any Colour You Like.

Pink Floyd, not a trip down memory lane, but a grand adventure flying down the super-highway of my youth!
I'm happy to have grown up with this tune as a child. 52 now. RUSH, Killing Joke, Porcupine Tree and boat loads of other bands have filled my head. Pink Floyd are the ones I love to listen too while falling asleep.
