I usually don't like horror movies like this but I liked this movie.

One of the best horror movies I've seen. Rather than using jump scares you get paranoid and anxiety from worrying about what'll happen next. And you can see truly relatable characters in a way. All in all The Babadook is a solid 10/10
Greg John
It was so scary I did a Babadookie in my pants
I saw this movie. The moral of the story - - don't have children.

When you can't sleep because you keep seeing Babadook in your sleep, but with the head of Marmaduke and keep laughing, keeping yourself awake.

This movie isn't for everyone, and that's honestly because it's not your typical horror movie. The monster itself isn't shown much, and it's more of a slow journey into insanity or an interpretation of a path away from grief, which to people who enjoy the many jump scares and loud scenes won't really get into.
Nkululeko Duma
Never felt so threatened by a movie like this in my life. After watching so many bloody horror movies in my life and not feeling the effects of them. It took this movie to tip me over the edge. This is one badass movie without much blood.

This is hands-down the best horror movie I've seen since the turn of the century. I was disappointed by The Conjuring, considering all the hype for that film, but THIS was terrifying, meaningful, and utterly brilliant.
I usually don't enjoy horror movies but my favorite is the shinning but this one was pretty good I don't understand why it only has 6/10 on imdb
Simon Cowell
Saw it. It's a yes from me.
Jenna Garrett
I usually don't get scared, I usually laugh at horror movies. But this one got me quite a few times. Great choice
Okay that's it! I'm watching it! NOW! Wish me luck

People need to see this movie in the right way. This movie was meant to build up paranoia and fright, instead of using cheap jumpscares. That's not horror. It's just startling the audience. In order for a movie to be truly scary, it needs to build up a sinister environment upon the audience so it will lead to a good enough scene that will scare the daylights out of people. Silly jump scares are just cheap ways to scare people. And more importantly, the horror movie needs to reflect some type of relatable content. Say someone had a real problem with being terrified of the dark. A horror movie needs to have someone relate to that, so they can be scared.

This movie genuinely terrified me, and I don't get scared easily. One of the best horror movies I've seen. People think horror is just jumpscares and scary ghosts but it's not
Juliette Boursier
One of the scariest movie ever! It's good because for most of the film everything is left to your imagination and THAT'S how you do a good horror film. Don't let us see the monster, just imagine it, it'll be a 1000 times scarier.
K Nogne
This has become an icon of my people, so I gotta at least watch the trailer. But I can't. I am so scared.
I liked the film but it could have made a bigger point on the Babadook being gay. The LGBTQ aspect is clear to see at least as he made a pop up book about himself coming out just for the drama of it. Like if u support the Babadook! :)
madelin elaine
who else came here because of the babadook being the LGBTQ mascot
In the same genre, I highly recommend watching Ivan Kavanagh's The Canal. An indie Irish movie about an archivist struggling with hallucinations about the ghost of a 19 century  killer who stabbed his cheating wife and drowned his three children in the nearby canal. The hallucinations grew stronger shortly after David (the archivist) caught his wife in bed with another man.
Don't watch this, you'll waste an hour and a half of your life.
Gee It shur is boring a rownd he e ar
One of the best horror movies I have ever seen. If you think carefully... *SPOILER* I think the Babadook was actually Amelia's grief telling her to sacrifice the child because she can't get the fathers death out of her mind. And when Sam saw it, I think he was basically seeing his mother go crazy. Grief really doesn't go away, so you can't get rid of the Babadook. And the Babadook is also a vision of the father because that's what mainly her grief is about. And the Babadook is in the cellular because all of his memories are still there. I have a feeling I'm wrong because DID drag sam to the wall and Amelia is feeding it worms at the end. But that's what I think. Amazing movie.

I want that babadick 😩💦💦

Came here after reading a fan fic about The Babadook becoming friends with Shrek, Marmaduke, and Paddington.

For those saying this film was ''overrated or boring'', it's not for people who expect a cliched horror film where you got some badass chick beating the crap out of a monster and saving the day. This film relied on simple psychology to execute it's story perfectly so if you're NOT into acclaimed films such as the Godfather, All About Eve or the Terminator (1984) then this film ISN'T FOR YOU! It's not for people who only have the attention span for films such as the Dark Knight or Resident Evil!
Anna Hipur
the only thing bugging me was the police scene, when the officer was laughing at her attempt to explain her situation. He only had to look at her to see that there's definitely something going terribly wrong.. *sigh*
Really good movie. Suspenseful till the end. I don't think I can sleep tonight now that I know about Babadook...👹

this movie was hilarious.

I'll be honest, this is the most terrifying movie I've ever seen. Not in the traditional horror genre way of gore and jump scares. As someone who has suffered loss and not fully coped with it while also raising an atypically developing child, I can very much relate. That's why this worked for me. Maybe terrifying isn't even the right way to put it. It made me reflect on myself and my own feelings. Spoiler: when he's stroking his mom's cheek in the basement it made me breakdown crying. I love my son to death, but I worry that my frustration would ever make him feel unloved. When he says, "I know you don't love me mommy, but I love you." it broke my heart.

It's the gay icon's first gay pride... I'm happy

I'm a 24 year old man, who had NEVER been scared by a horror movie. EVER. But It is 4:51 AM and I will not be sleeping tonight. If it didn't scare you, fine. People fear different things I guess. But I found this movie absolutely terrifying.

Most people have no god damned clue about what this movie is about. It is influenced by a short story which is a bit similar. There are not many interpretations. There is one. The babadook is either only in the mother's head or it is a force that entered the mother because of her unstable emotions and impulses that start driving her insane. The buried impulse is to kill the child from the beginning. The child feels this and this is why he is afraid of the babadook. At first the mother cannot realise that her son sees her as his possible murderer because he senses the impulse. It is indeed a scary story but too intricate for a lot of viewers to grasp. They are too dumb to get the horror.

I've always loved horror movies , I could watch 3 in a row at 3am , my mom is almost 50 now and If IF I convince her she shuts her pants LITERALLY lol 😂 but I wish I would find a horror movie that really scares me I always keep on laughing like it was a comedy movie . the conjuring DID NOT scare me at all or any other horror movie...
Rose Strife14
for real though how am I supposed to be scared of a guy that looks like a cardboard cutout plus now he's in lbgtq icon so I don't think I'll ever be afraid of him ever

It was scary. Of course it was not a 2 gazillion million billion dollar movie, so it's effects are not that good. But, dude... that ending... the ending just makes you think it was all a joke.
Abel Santiago Jiménez
hi, would you recommend this movie?
Imogen Oakland
One of the few horror movies with an actual ending and has a meaning/cause for monster. Really good in my opinion ^.^

Best horror movie in years ... classic horror as in the book
