Being too young for M-rated video games, I would play GTA 4 non-stop. I vividly remember driving a car through liberty city at night with this song playing in the background. One of the comfiest moments I've had

I asked someone if they like smashing pumpkins and they said I dont know I never tried, lmao!

The nostalgia is strong for this video and by extension the 1990s because the world has gone to absolute shit in the last 20 years. The West has been systematically destroyed by antisocial technology, mass immivasion, out of control cost of living and SJW socialist shit that is strangling what is left of the pillars of society.

This song has been removed from GTA IV due to the licensing agreement expiring today. We will never be able to drive through Broker while being chased by hundreds of cops or hanging out with Packie or Little Jacob while listening to SP again. But dont be sad that it's over. Be happy that it happened.

This reminds me of growing up as a teenager in the 90s, this literally was the soundtrack to my youth. I use to go to house parties like the one in this video :)

One of those rare tunes that evokes an emotional response, no matter when you were born, even though it references a specific year. A timeless song about a specific year, paradox. I was 17 in 1979, and it was a rough year. But that's not what I feel when I hear this song. Yes, a little sad at the wasted years and lost innocence, but it's a trick of the light: Today is the day you can be free of care Today is the day you will probably remember fondly Today might be hard, but tomorrow will soon be today Don't miss how great this day is In truth, 1979 had just as many faults as 2018. It's all in the eye of the beholder. Love this day. It's neither as good or bad as you think it is. It just is, and we're here. Thanks for the feels, Billy.

Shakedown 1979, cool kids never have the time On a live wire right up off the street You and I should meet June bug skipping like a stone With the headlights pointed at the dawn We were sure we'd never see an end to it all And I don't even care to shake these zipper blues And we don't know just where our bones will rest To dust I guess Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below Double cross the vacant and the bored They're not sure just what we have in the store Morphine city slippin' dues, down to see that We don't even care, as restless as we are We feel the pull in the land of a thousand guilts And poured cement, lamented and assured To the lights and towns below Faster than the speed of sound Faster than we thought we'd go, beneath the sound of hope Justine never knew the rules Hung down with the freaks and the ghouls No apologies ever need be made I know you better than you fake it, to see And I don't even care to shake these zipper blues And we don't know just where our bones will rest To dust I guess Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below The street heats the urgency of sound As you can see there's no one around

Are you a Hutu or a Tutsi?
My father really craves this song in specific. When I was 8 I gave the song a try and added it to my personal album. About half a year ago I decided to give the band a try since I'm a new metal head. No regrets. Best Band Iv listened to yet! As a mexican I really do enjoy this type of music while everybody else is stuck up with 6ix9ine and lil xan and so on.

I was 20 years old in 1979, I heard this song when I turned 40 (midlife crisis) and thought about 1979 and how simple it was. Now at 60 I listen to it and only feel FREE from the struggles of my past. Great song in the never ending circle. 1995-1999 had some of the best music, much better than the 60s.

Mellon Collie came out when I was 13 in 7th grade, and this is still by far one of my favorite music videos and songs. And for all of us that grew up in this era, I challenge you to find a more important or more impactful album than this one.

Thus song came out in 1996, 17 years after 1979. I'm 34, 17 years ago I *was* 17 and this song and video makes me pine for those days. Being a teenager is simultaneously the worst and best time of your life. Whether a particular girl likes you is the most important thing in your life, now it's your mortgage. If some teenager is reading this - don't squander your youth, enjoy it. Ask that girl out, join that club, push your boundaries, because tomorrow you'll be 50 and no one will remember if you failed and otherwise you'll be filled with regret if you don't.

I'm so depressed. Nostalgia leads to introspection which leads to existential despair which leads to suicidal thoughts. I need a friend.

The last year was the first time I listened to this song, and it was the week when I got my first girlfriend, also, I was listening to it the day that we broke up. She were the only girl that i really liked. This song kept me in pieces when I was falling down, so it became in my safe place, a place where I can cry when I feel sad or I can enjoy when I'm happy. Just so thankful to The Smashing Pumpkins for being a such important band in my life and fix my broken heart.
